Out of the Woodwork 2018

Adamstown, MD: June 2-3, 2018

TVRCCNA has been proud to partner with Carlisle Productions to host Out of the Woodwork at the Carlisle Import and Performance Nationals for the last five years, but we’ve never been able to solve recurring issues with the hotels (the Carlisle Inn, since demolished, and the Park Inn Harrisburg West). Poor service, catering issues, drunken firefighters, and last year multiple problems with unsanitary rooms. We have heard your complaints and the Board decided to try something new for Out of the Woodwork 2018. This year Out of the Woodwork will be held 2-3 June 2018 in conjunction with The Original British Car Day in Adamstown, MD, a show that celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2017. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Chesapeake Chapter of the New England MG T Register for its willingness to host us (and the relentless efforts of Laurel Tokar over the last decade to draw TVRs to this show, which encouraged us to approach them).

If you are not familiar with The Original British Car Day it is one of the premier British car shows on the East Coast, regularly drawing several hundred British automobiles of all marques, models, and styles. The show was held in Bowie, MD for the first 25 years of its existence before moving to Smokey Glen Farm in 2002 and then Lilypons Water Garden in 2004. Photos from previous shows can be found here as well as older TVR photos on Charlie Colbert’s site here.

The Original British Car Day is held on a Sunday, so we’re going to tweak the schedule a bit this year. We’re still working on a bunch of the details so be sure to keep an eye on this page for updates as well as show and banquet registration. We will be hosting a range of optional events on Saturday June 2 including an early morning coffee run, the monthly DC TVR Breakfast at a local diner, a cruise through the Northern Virginia and West Virginia countryside (including stops at Summit Point Motorsports Park in Jefferson County, WV and Harpers Ferry, WV), and a visit to the Smithsonian’s National Air & Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center (home of the Enola Gay, the Concorde, and many more aircraft). Our banquet will be held the evening of June 2 at The Bungalow Lakehouse in Sterling, VA, and we will be holding a cookout the evening of Friday June 1 for anyone who wants to get to town earlier. We can also arrange other outings for club members or spouses if there is enough demand, such as a golf outing, spa day, or a shopping trip to nearby fashion centers, outlets, or antique stores – just tell us what you would like to see.

We have locked in our hotel, which is the Courtyard by Marriott Dulles Town Center in Dulles, VA (45500 Majestic Drive, Dulles, VA 20166). We have negotiated a special rate of $113/night that is available between Thursday 31 May and Monday 4 June 2018. To get our special rate you need to call Marriott Reservations at 800-369-3902 and request the TVR Car Club North America room block at the Courtyard Dulles Town Center, or you can use the direct web link. We have arranged a few rooms to be available Thursday night and Sunday night in case anyone wants to bring their family and see the sights of nearby Washington, DC before or after the show. We are working with the hotel to try and arrange a segregated area to park our cars away from the general traffic flow, and they have also promised a hose so people can wash their cars before the show on Sunday. Similarly, The Bungalow Lakehouse is arranging reserved and segregated parking for anyone who wants to drive their TVR to the banquet, or the hotel shuttle is available if you want to take advantage of the Lakehouse bar.

Tony has arranged for this year's special guest to be John Reid (of Readman Racing and the Dunlop TVR European Challenge), and the Chesapeake Chapter usually comes up with someone special as well. Last year their special guest was John Davis, the Emmy Award-winning host, executive producer, and creator of MotorWeek (television's longest running automotive series), so we can’t wait to see who they line up for 2018. In the meantime, please let me know if you have any thoughts, concerns, preferences, or other suggestions by emailing vicepresident@tvrccna.org or calling 302-547-5269. The DC Chapter of the TVRCCNA Mid-Atlantic Region is looking forward to showing off our area and putting on a show to remember, so don’t miss it!
